Pinterest for Brand Measurement

When most people think of the Pinterest website the first thing in their mind is women planning their dream wedding, teachers looking to decorate a classroom and moms saving recipes to (theoretically) try at some point in the future. We don't really think to consider using the platform for brand promotion or management. Due to this perceived notion of only using it for a few specific things, I had never truly considered the possibility of using Pinterest professionally. The boards on my profile prior to our assignment consisted of sorority crafts, outfit inspiration and a variety of different hair colors from over the summer when I changed up my look. Monday afternoon I added my first board that was a bit more "professional" than the others.

I find myself gravitating to content that is very graphic and visual, so Pinterest is somewhere I'm able to find a lot of good ideas and content to use throughout my life. As I went about creating the board for our measurement assignment I learned quite a bit about demographics and statistics in social media that I hadn't really been able to retain through reading or listening to a lecture. For example, I was able to finally grasp the difference between content variation and pace in regards to posting on Twitter versus Facebook as a brand. Twitter requires multiple tweets each day with engaging graphics geared toward a younger audience while Facebook is often targeting an older age range that doesn't need hourly content updates. Overall, I really enjoyed using Pinterest as a way to gather and display more professional content and hope to use it again in the future!

  1. I agree with you, I also thought that Pinterest is only for photographers and designers. But I like the way it puts beautiful pictures that you need. I can't say I would use it for work or study as it does not have enough professional information.
