The Value of Being a Planner

I've always considered myself to be someone that needs everything to be planned and scheduled perfectly in advance. If an average person saw my planner they'd probably think I was absolutely insane with all of my commitments (but don't worry, I attached a photo of it just for fun anyways). The practice of planning is important in more fields than just academic commitments. When you're considering a social media move or campaign there is a lot of thought and planning that must go into it. This is where our reading for this week comes into play.

A strategic plan is basically a document that will completely outline how an organization is going to work to achieve a given goal or objective. These plans create a sort of road map for social media planners and involve research once a purpose has been clearly identified for the motion. These can be used not only for solving any issues your group could be facing, but also as a way to spark interest in an upcoming product or initiative. By incorporating your group's vision and voice into a social media plan we find ways to open up pathways to not only new customers but voices that have been previously unheard. Without a plan there is no way to guarantee that we are ready for execution of the action, and those involved in that execution can struggle with finding ways to monitor it. When it doubt, create a plan!

  1. I am a total freak show to when it comes to my planner & organizing things. I worked with a small boutique in Wapakoneta, OH on their Instagram page. We worked on social media and campaign planning. I created a content calendar for her and it had to be a lot of detail because she didn't know what she was doing when it came to social media.

  2. I used to never write anything down in a planner. I always thought I would remember it, or just go to the syllabus to see when things were due, but last year I decided to try using one and it saved my life. I was always prepared for upcoming events, and I rarely forgot about assignments. Now I use my planner like crazy and am prepared. This carries over into social media so heavily. My mom asks me a lot to come up with a social media plan for her formal wear store. This way it takes the stress off of her on what to post and when.

  4. Oh, I understand you so much. I can't organize my life without a planner. I always carry it with me. Everyone has their own style of planners, some people like planers with printed pages but I prefer to draw my own lines in my favorite order.
