High School vs. College Homecoming
In high school, homecoming is all about who's taking who to the dance, which girl has the prettiest dress and if your team is going to win the football game. It was never really something I got too passionate about while I was experiencing it. Yes, I went to the dance and football game every year with my friends. I didn't hate the idea of the event, but it just always felt like a lot of work for little reward. In college it's a little different.
This past weekend was homecoming here at Ohio Northern University. Students spent the weekend running back and forth between organizations and events trying to keep up with the day. Personally, I was up at 8:00 in the morning and didn't stop until midnight. While the weekend is stressful overall, it is hands down my favorite time of the year. I got to ride on the Kappa Psi float in our parade, taking pictures with my little (as you can see it didn't work out too well) as we got ready to start. We laughed until we cried, and I spent the whole day with the people who make me happiest.
While it is exciting to get dressed up and go to a dance in high school, nothing compares to the love and excitement of alumni coming back home to ONU. As students we can get really busy with school work and forget to appreciate how lucky we are to have the Polar Bear family all over the country. It is a really special experience to connect with alumni and spend a weekend celebrating how much we love ONU with your best friends.
Hello,
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing! I , too, went to all of the homecoming events through out high school and really enjoyed it. I did find Ohio Northern's homecoming to be very fun and a different type of homecoming. I am definitely proud to be a polar bear! Overall, great weekend!
Thanks again,
Alyson
High school homecoming events were always fun, but I agree that college homecoming is so much better. I love the ciaos that comes with it, especially if you are involved in a few organizations! I also spent the whole day running back and forth between events to get pictures for yearbook. I'm sad that was my last homecoming, but it was for sure the best one.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree more! I remember the stress of homecoming in high school and I always wondered why it was called homecoming because alumni wasn't a huge deal in high school, but college homecoming makes sense. So many alumni come "home" for the weekend to see old friends. Homecoming weekend will forever be my favorite weekend, even if it is filled with events all day long.
ReplyDeleteHomecoming is definitely one of my favorite events too! Hearing the stories about ONU in the 1900s is one of my favorite activities! Especially being involved I can relate to the hectic schedule the weekend creates. Hearing the alumni's stories and hanging out with them throughout the day creates bonds that I never expected to make in College with some unexpected people!
