A Much Needed (Fall) Break
Sometimes you just need to hit the reset button. As college students, allowing ourselves to take a break can become difficult. While finals are still awhile away, I can't help but feel the impending stress approaching like a freight train. Fall break was precisely what I needed at the midpoint of our fall semester here at Ohio Northern. Thursday afternoon I drove back home to Cleveland, excited and anxious to not only catch up on sleep but to give my cat immense amounts of love. Eventually I made it home and spent the day running some errands with my mom, giving in when she wanted to look at all of the Christmas decorations that are already on the shelves at HomeGoods (I know, it's still October) for over an hour.
Naturally, being away from campus has its downfalls as well. I quickly began to miss the sounds of my friends laughter when we say things so funny that I start to cry, or the satisfaction of climbing into bed after a long day in classes and work at the Office of Admissions. Despite those things, I loved being back home. I went into the Ulta Beauty location I work at to do my on-boarding for the holidays, and spent the afternoon with the women at the store filling me in on everything that I've missed in the two months since I came back to Ada.
Going home may seem boring to some, and naturally you're going to miss your friends. What's important is to look on the bright side, and take the few days of break to reset as we head into the second half of fall semester. You've got this Polar Bears. I believe in you.
I was so exciting for fall break for the same reasons. I needed a break, even just one day, from homework and stress so it was so nice for that reason. I could not wait to cuddle my dog (who is probably the same size as your cat) and I was excited to see my family, but like you, I really started to miss my friends. You never realize how much time you spend with your friends until you take a long weekend away from school. I couldn't wait to get back up here in Ada so I could see them and catch up on the long weekend.
