Social Media Wrap Up
Throughout our first few weeks in this course, we discussed the bare bones and began to dive deeper into the process of using social media both personally and professionally. In the post today, I decided I would go through some of the things that really stuck with me throughout the class discussions.
Personal branding is something that I've always been aware of but never really put effort into. Through our discussions I really took this to heart and proceeded to make my profile picture on all platforms the same for easier recognition. Along with this, I took the banner photo from my blog and used it as the header for my twitter account so that they would also match. Personal branding is something we don't really think about as college students, but we should put more effort into as we continue on in our social media use.
Along with this goes the concept of thinking about what you post beforehand. Old tweets can be brought back up years later, and we have to think about that in advance. I went back through my personal feed and cleared out anything that could possibly go the wrong way, even though I have always been pretty aware of this topic. Continuing into our professional careers, students must watch what they say because you truly never know who is going to see that post, tweet or snap somewhere down the line.
Overall, the conversations that we've had over the past four weeks have been very beneficial for those of us that are planning on utilizing social media in our future careers, as well as those who do not. Going forward, I am excited to learn more about the analytics behind platforms that I use on a daily basis and how I can utilize that information as time goes on.
