Getting Pulled in by Twitter
I'll be the first to admit that I got peer pressured by Twitter. I just couldn't stay away from the tweets each week about who was crying, who said what, and why someone was going home. Can you guess what I'm talking about? Yep. It's the Bachelor franchise. I spent YEARS of my life telling people how I didn't support the show due to it being slightly problematic, pitting women against one another for the attention of a single man. This summer that all changed.
I was scrolling through my feed one evening when all of the Bachelor tweets started appearing. I was pretty bored since it was 10 in the evening and I'd just gotten home from work, so I caved. All of a sudden I was hooked. I knew everyones name, background and the drama that had already occurred throughout the season. My mom rolled her eyes at this newfound obsession of mine while I continued on watching it each week as the episodes premiered.
This made me take a step back and think about my Twitter habits, and the impact this app has on its users. I was so easily convinced that this show was something I needed to watch, and I now follow most of the contestants on their individual social media channels outside of the show. The next time you find yourself intrigued by something that is heavily discussed in social media, give it a shot. You may end up invested in the love life of people you're definitely never going to meet.
Hello,
ReplyDeleteI have been a fan of the bachelor franchise for a very long time. I do watch, but I am not a supporter of the ideology. If I miss an episode, I try to stay off of twitter that way it is not spoiled for me. I have found that Twitter is the most used social media for TV shows. I also watch Chicago Fire and tweeting after any of the Chicago _____ shows are a hot topic as well!
Thanks for sharing,
Alyson
The Bachelor franchise is my guilty pleasure. I started watching the show freshman year of college when new friends roped me into it. The unnecessary drama just pulls me in and I can't look away. I am definitely guilty of having my Twitter app open on my phone while the show is on so I can see the tweets roll in at real time. I never really realized how the show had an impact on my Twitter usage & vis versa. It's very interesting to think about.
