Beware of the Beauty Gurus

Between all of the current social media platforms like YouTube, Instagram, Twitter, and Snapchat, this year has seen its share of scandals within the beauty community. Most of the time, these scandals originate from an influencer posting something they definitely shouldn't have. Currently, Jaclyn Hill is under fire for the disastrous launch of her cosmetic company, Jaclyn Cosmetics. When her brand launched their premiere products, the lipsticks were delivered to customers covered in little white hairs, as well as with air bubbles and possible contaminants.

Jaclyn blamed these issues on the lab that produced her lipsticks, before going dark on the internet for weeks. Her brand remained silent, and many customers have yet to receive a refund for the faulty products. With the lack of ownership over these issues, as well as Jaclyn blocking twitter users that were reaching out regarding the poor customer service they received, this has been an eye opening time for those who love the beauty community so dearly. We have been reminded that oftentimes, young persons that have as much influence and power as those such as Jaclyn Hill, James Charles, and Manny MUA have a lot of financial ties to the things they release, review, and recommend. As we continue on in the investigation of Jaclyn Cosmetics, I hope that this becomes a warning beacon for all consumers that we may not always be the most important factor in what they choose to promote.

  1. I thoroughly enjoyed that you mentioned the James Charles case in your blog, it was such a controversial scandal that happened. It is refreshing to see someone want to speak out about it with facts rather than just assuming. I am excited to see what else you come up with!
